Super Foods For Celebrating My Birthday

It’s Happy Birthday to me and we are throwing a birthday party for me.  While birthdays are like a double-edged sword, I love to celebrate them.  A few years back I committed to a much healthier lifestyle and eliminated meat and much junk out of my diet.  Since those years are gone, I can happily say, so are about 75 pounds I never want to see again.  We are having a party for my birthday and I am putting out all the great snacks that I enjoy so that when I snack(after all the day is about me) I can enjoy the crunch without the guilt.  For a few snacks and drinks this year, I actually tried something new:  Rhythm Superfoods and Taste Nirvana’s Coconut Water, after all a girl needs her chips and drinks.

rhythm superfoods

Rhythym Superfoods are chips that come in 4 different flavors:  Jalapeno Lime, Nacho, Barbeque, and Sea Salt.  I nibbled on Sea Salt and Barbeque.  These pack quite the crunch and almost are like a thin cracker.  The chips are baked and not fried and they are Gluten Free.  The consistency is grainy.  What makes these up? Pea protein, sweet potatoes, carrots, and broccoli.  Each of these flavors boast 4 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.  Rhythm Superfood Sea Salt Chips pack plenty of protein and fiber into a non-GMO snack. All the chip flavors deliver great taste with 50 percent less fat per serving than leading potato and tortilla chip brands.  The chip is a perfect salty without being overdone and great with a Margarita(birthday girl).

Taste Nirvana’s Coconut Water will send you vying for a Pina Colada and using this as a mix in is the answer.  The Coconut Water is all-natural, Thailand originated and preservative free.  The water offers the most authentic taste you can get without actually drinking from the coconut and they are extremely refreshing and naturally sweet.  Each container is 9.5 fl oz.

I made a Pina Colada Smoothie:

1 bottle of 9.5 oz Real Coconut Water From Taste Nirvana

1/2 Cup of chunked pineapple (frozen for the coolness)

4 ice cubes

Optional Party —>>> Add Rum 1 shot

That’s it. Smoothee it up

This water is the perfect compliment to this drink.

Beanitos ~ The Healthy Chip For Crunching

Keeping with my New Year’s Resolution begun years ago, I try to stay true to my healthy eating mantra, and while it is not always easy to make all the right food choices, when I slip, I try to slip into healthy and crunch on foods that are still healthy for me.   [Read more...]

Food Should Taste Good Chipping Away At Hunger

Allergies in foods cause chaos in my home, so we make sure to have snacks that work around the allergies, but not all snacks are created equal.  My kids requests are simple, a snack that crunches and is good for them, and my thought is, “is that possible?” FOOD Should TASTE GOOD makes snacks that the kids can enjoy and I can feel good about serving and now they have a few new chips to crunch on.

The Cantina Chip offers an original corn tortilla chip sprinkled with sea salt and it really lets you take a bite out of dip as it is a wide chip.  It is all natural, GF, Certified Kosher, and has no cholesterol, so this chip is a huge win in my home.  The Guacamole Tortilla Chip is a little more sassy because it is cracker-like and boasts the flavors of Cilantro, Avocado and Serrano Peppers.  I like this one dunked in Lemon Hummus as it offsets each flavor and compliments it well.

Now, we like to get a kick out of things and this next chip(cracker) is an all natural tortilla chip that is known as JALAPENO.  This little fire cracker will give your mouth a kick with the jalapeno and red crushed peppers it has in it, so get ready to extinguish with a nice beer(Corona, or Dos Equis) or a Margarita.

Celebrate food with GF Chips that will really light up your taste buds, from FOOD Should TASTE GOOD.

Make Your Own Tortilla Chips

homemade nachos

It’s frugal and snack savvy and you won’t believe how easy it is to make your own Tortilla Chips.  My kids love these snacking sensations and I love how easy they are to prepare.  I also have found that .99 a package is a really frugal deal and makes enough chips to satisfy my crew.  An added ‘frugal’ extra is that you are not adding in any unnecessary ingredients so you can keep the garbage fillers out of the diet.

When you are at your favorite store, purchase flour or corn tortillas, whichever you prefer.  In my home we buy a few of each because of food allergies and my kids.  Don’t forget to pick up non-stick spray(butter flavor or olive oil), sea salt, foil and your favorite nacho toppings.

Gather the following ingredients:

1 bag of flour or corn tortillas

Non Stick Spray (butter or olive oil flavor)

Sea Salt

Foil Lined Tray

Cut each tortilla into wedges or strips.  Lay on a non-stick sprayed pan or a foil lined tray sprayed with non-stick spray.  Lightly spray each of the wedges/strips with spray and sea salt.  Bake at 400 for about 10 minutes. Flour tortillas cook more rapidly and tend to burn so watch them carefully.  Once them come out they are ready to eat.  Look for golden brown chips.  These are restaurant quality and a deliciously frugal snack.

My preference is for the corn tortilla because it crisps up nicer and packs a more powerful crunch.  Flour tortillas burn a bit more easily and you really have to watch these as they bake.  We have found that preparing them on a STONE from Pampered Chef is the best way to create these, they turn out crisp every time.
