Food Allergies Stink, and I Don’t Like Foods That Make Me Sick! ~Niko Vento
My son must state that phrase about 10 times daily as he is plagued with food allergies, some of which are life threatening. We had no idea that a few years ago when he told us his tongue was numb after eating some chocolate that his whole life was about to change. No cool looking foods, no cool packages and surely nothing really great tasting! I was about to change the taste of all his foods and give him things he could eat but it was a challenge. Being handed a list of food allergies about a mile long really was not a 7 year old’s most exciting moment and being banned from eating, mostly everything FUN that young kids eat is a serious morale downer! What is a mom to do?

I have had to change everything that my son eats, and I have to inspect every package for every detailed ingredient because one ingredient can have a drastic change on how his day may progress. I have been creating fun things for my son to eat and writing notes on his bags! I want him to feel good about what he is eating, not odd because his packed food does not look like the other kids foods that have brightly colored bags and fun foods in them. Sometimes I get crazy and put a sticker on the wax paper or plastic bags just to make the bag look nicer. I don’t have to do that anymore.
