There is nothing more gross than opening a dishwasher filled with clean dishes and finding DIRTY SILVERWARE. I will tell you that I dislike RINSING before throwing dishes in the dishwasher but it seems necessary. 
A handy little trick that I have learned and is seems to really make the buildup go away effortlessly is the following:
Dissolve a bit of dishwasher granules in a glass with water filled 1/2 way, then add silverware. Allow this to soak a few hours and then load. While this does not eliminate the need to move things a long quickly it will help make your silverware come out clean. Just make sure that when you transfer the silverware to the dishwasher you plan on RUNNING the dishwasher soon as the dirt is already loosened and ready to go.
