The Benedum Center Marquis is lit, parking lots are brimming with cars, and Liberty, 9th & Penn Avenue are filled with excited families ~ all dressed up, ready to fill the Benedum Center and watch Mary Poppins! Just as the excitement filled the street, excitement filled the stage with a warm, compelling tale of a family learning to be a family through the help of a Nanny!
The STRONG vocal performances of Mary Poppins are reminiscent of the movie you might have once watched onscreen. Jane and Michael Banks are incredibly gifted young performers who absolutely command the stage and Michael’s best moment is very close to the end, right before he exits the stage and talks to Mary Poppins! As Step In Time was performed the perfection of the dance, the performers and the music just all came together. Bert’s musical tapping rendition will leave you in the clouds and amazed!
As I sat with my daughter I could not help but feel lucky to be at this performance. The cast made the show seamless and you began to feel like you were actually in the Banks’ home and living in their story. The colors of the many costumes were brilliant just as the songs and the mastery of voice. I loved the Nanny’s together, out-versing, and outwitting one another, showing the power of words and wisdom! The Tale of 2 different Nanny’s very boldly shown!
My daughter found the show very appealing, she is in honors chorus and show choir and appreciated the talent, the dances and the vocals that were presented throughout the show. It is a great show when you can have a 15 year old requesting to see it again! 2 thumbs up.
Mary Poppins is here through this weekend, and it is a wonderful FAMILY SHOW. You can purchase tickets as Family Four Packs for $100 Here.
